The Academy of Customs of Ukraine is a unique higher educational establishment in Ukraine which trains specialists for the State Customs Service of Ukraine. The Academy was founded in June, 1996 by the Decree of the President of Ukraine № 412/96. The first enrollment of cadets and trainees was in the summer of 1997.

Today the Academy of Customs trains and re-trains cadets, students and trainees in the following eight specialisms:
• Management
• Accounting and Audit
• Finance and Credit
• International Economics
• Jurisprudence
• Transport Technologies
• Computer Sciences
• State Service

According to the decision of State Certification Committee dating from February, 25th, 2010 the Academy was accredited as the higher educational establishment of the IV level.

Since its formation the Academy has paid the greatest attention to personnel’s scientific development. Since 1997 the quantity of academic staff has increased by 7 times. The Academy takes pride in its academic staff with Doctors of Sciences, Full Professors, Candidates of Sciences and Associate Professors who work full-time at the Academy.
The research is viewed as an important and integral part of the scientific life in Academy. Fundamental and applied scientific researches are conducted in the following spheres:
• Economic safety of the state;
• Organizational and legal provision of Customs affair in the context of European development;
• Organization of struggle with smuggling and infringement of Customs regulations;
• Information systems in the sphere of Customs activity;
• Innovation technologies in training and scientific activity.

By its decision of 24.11.1998 the Board of the State Service of Ukraine assigned the Academy as the leading center of scientific developments in the Customs domain. Academic and practical as well as scientific and methodical conferences are held annually here. They are devoted to the topical issues of Customs affair. Prominent scientists both from Ukrainian and from foreign educational and scientific establishments as well as specialists from Customs Service participate in these events.

The results of researches are published in many national and foreign journals “Bulletin of Ukrainian Academy of Customs" has been published since 1999, it was included in the list of professional publications of economic and technical sciences and from now on also of legal sciense issues of governance (it’s four separate journals), and statistical bulletin “Customs statistics”, that contains all the information about foreign trade of our country.

The Academy cooperates with customs educational institutions of other countries. Since its very first years the Academy takes part in international programs and projects including TRANSFORM and TACIS programs, maintains contact with other customs educational institutions of Central and Western Europe, Asia, America and CIS countries. The Academy holds seminars and training of customs issues involving leading experts of European customs and WCO.

Considering the specificity of official activity a lot of attention in the Academy is paid to educational work and developing professional culture of a future customs officer. In order to foster appropriate ethical and psychological qualities of students and also to establish a healthy lifestyle there are 6 groups of amateur performance including the prizewinner of many Ukrainian competition national dance company “Veselka”, 8 clubs of interest, 10 sports sections. Among students of the Academy there are champions of the world, Europe and Ukraine. At this moment there are 5 masters of sports and 11 candidates for masters of sports and also many high-level sportsmen in judo, shooting, weight sports etc.

At the period of Academy’s growth it got strengthening material and technical base. The Academy has 6 gyms, shooting gallery, playground, two assembly halls, numerous facilities for activity of the groups of amateur performance. Cafeteria and Buffets provide full nutrition for students and staff.
